The smell of the salty ocean,

The crash of the mighty waves,

My mind flooded with emotion,

Stuck in my own dark caves

I saw the light at the end,

Of this long and dreadful cavern,

Within that light I saw a friend,

Whom's ways I yearned to learn

How did they find their way,

Between here and there,

All I could see was grey,

I worried how I’ll fare

I ran and ran, pushing my soul,

My eyes focused only on the goal,

And in doing so, I failed to see,

All that was right in front of me

I kept falling down,

And while I kept getting up,

I always wore a frown,

And was close to giving up

The smell of the salty ocean,

The crash of the mighty waves,

I took a deep breath,

And steadied my pace

From the small elegant pebbles,

To the large monstrous rocks,

And the air that resembles,

The indoors of the outdoors,

I was trapped in an open box

I took in all of it,

The sights, smells, and sounds,

Even though I was in a pit,

I knew I could get out

As I stopped trying so hard,

I realized I was finally aware,

That the goal was not greater,

Than the path to getting there

As I embraced my journey,

Instead of trying to leave it behind,

I felt a hand reach out to me,

From the friend I had in mind.
